MIX AND AUGMENT realities to increase audience interaction in music performances. We created an experience with a local band for one of their songs for a live performance with MR and AR devices.

“Yuh” Live at the Centre for Digital Media XR Concert Experience
When we first started the project, we wanted to explore how to best enhance music with visuals. Throughout our project, we kept returning to our main goals: to deliver mixed reality interactive visuals that utilize the whole concert space, convey the musician’s visual identity, and dynamically react to sound with users’ interaction. All to enhance--not distract from--the musician’s performance.
We reached out to local band Belle Game to be our client and partner to design and develop visuals and interactions aligned with the song content and meaning. We created a performance-ready piece to put on an entire concert for one song with stage lighting, projections, and a unique mixed and augmented reality experience (using Microsoft HoloLens and AR capable phones).

AR (augmented reality)
Audience members without Microsoft HoloLens headsets were able to view the experience with their phones. This allowed for the entire audience to enjoy the experience.
MR (mixed reality)
Audience members wore Microsoft HoloLens headsets to experience the full capabilities of the show. They were able to gesture with their hands to create visuals such as small “YUH” 3D objects.
